It’s been three years since DashCon and Fyre Fest has happened. Meaning that in accordance to the Rule of Three, in another three years, a third and final gathering catastrophe will occur with its own symbol joining the ball pit and concierge stand to create an ungodly trifecta.
I was eating dinner with my mom and when she went to pay I noticed a “Hooters” frequent diner card or whatever in her wallet. I asked her WTF, and she explained that a friend of hers got a coupon for the grand opening and so a group of them went for lunch just to try it out. This is a group that consists of women from their 50s into their 80s. Apparently the food decent but the service was amazing, and the servers were “all such wonderful girls, so sweet! Said it was nice to take a break from all the gross men they had to deal with.” So they decided to come back. Now they go once a week at least, and the Hooters waitresses fight each other for who gets to serve them. Anyhow I thought it was cute.
I am all for the idea of a bunch of aunties and grandmas invading a space typically dominated by men acting like gross creepers and just taking the fuck over and being nice to the ladies on staff.
Because who the fuck is gonna argue with an army of polite older ladies?
Crime Dog visited the gay couple who wants to adopt her last night and apparently had a wonderful time. They let their dogs sleep on their bed and refer to them as their “kids” - I imagine she will be positively doted on. She got along splendidly with their old lab, which I’m glad of; she revels in canine companionship.
However, they’re going to be out of town until the 21st and are unable to take her off my hands until then. I think her extended stay may cause difficulties with my mother, who is starting to become worryingly attached to Crime Dog. I do not want to have to fight my mother over this because I’m not certain I can win - I have the willpower to give the dog up, but if I might not if it becomes a matter of ‘taking her away’.
On the bright side, I’ve found a new home for my mother’s frogs - they’re going to my friends in Ohio, so I can celebrate the idea that I am giving them as a gift rather than surrendering them because they were not sufficiently cared for.
There is one important thing that defines Dick and Bruce’s relationship:
Bruce knows that Dick is an exceptional man, and that Dick doesn’t really need him, even when Dick doesn’t know it.
Dick used to spend most of his late teens bitching about Batman being mean to him. But as an adult, he keeps worrying that he might not live up to Bat’s standards or that he needs his advice.
But Batman KNOWS that Dick doesn’t. And he keeps reminding him that he can solve his own problems. NOT because he isn’t interested in helping Dick, but because he shouldn’t rely on help from Batman, he is too good for that.
This example from Titans issue 14 illustrates my point. Dick is worrying that he is gonna mess up… EVERYTHING, to put it simple. While Dick is rambling, Bruce only speaks three times, to show that he is listening. And when Dick is done, Bats tells him that he knows Dick will make the right choice.
This confuses Dick, but he also kinda gets that Bruce just told him that he can handle himself. And it means the world to the former Boy Wonder.
